My good friend Elly Simmons, an amazina artist that illustrated "Calling the Doves," and got me started on writing for children with her art will be there filming...so, put on your high heel hauraches and your Dave Brubeck piano bathrobes and jaunt on down....

Just finished printing out the 187 proof -- 380 plus pages. There's a lot to edit. Then in a week, the book goes back to design then boom-bam-blam -- to press. From Nietzche to Che to Juarez. Papaya to Mayan rain forests, from the old trails north to the open sky. That is my hope. And do come to the book release at City Lights in SF, November 15th. My favorite month.
We just finished the proofing for the book & now it heads to the designers at Citylights. When I was 17 i used to stroll through City Lights, ruffle through the chapbook in amazement...
Citylights is workin' hard on the book, going to designer today, hot colors & salsa rollers, fount whirlers & language rockers...then we do some more proofing -- get your 187 tix cuz the clock is ticking, today it's 104 degrees in Socal, abrazos tropicales.
When I look around and notice the various media, social and cultural distortions that have to do with the question of migration, immigration and the virulent notion of the "Illegal," I wonder what is missing in people's day-to-day lives that could alter these misconceptions. What is awareness made of? History? Compassion? Experience? Class consciousness? Spiritual knowing? Answers anyone?
Maybe the question has to do with What fills people's lives today? Materialism, Power, Territorial desire? Fill in the blanks, anyone? How do our lives get filled this way?
